Elementary School Photo Day

What are some tips for great photos?

Long sleeves are recommended, and small patterns or solid bright colours photograph best. Avoid wearing stripes or very pale colours. It's also best to avoid wearing green or solid white if your school is being photographed using green screen technology. Hair should be neat.

Can I order if I missed the Due Date?

Yes. If the photo orders have already been picked up from your school, you can order up to two business days after the due date without additional fees online at mountainwest.ca.

Alternatively, please order online or send your photo order directly to our head office at 6869 Merritt Avenue, Burnaby, B.C. V5J 4R5. Be sure to include your home address! PLEASE NOTE: a fee will be applicable for individual handling, packaging and shipping to your home (separately from the rest of your school).

Where’s our class group photo?

Most schools that have individual portraits taken in the Fall have their group photos taken in the Spring. If a school opts for group photos in the Fall, the group photos will most often arrive after the individual portraits.

I'm not 100% satisfied with my photos. Can I get retakes?

Yes. In some cases you will have an order envelope we ask that parent's sign to have an additional photo/s on retake day. In other cases, please have your child go to the camera on retake day. Parents will be informed by the school of the retake date.

May I pay by cheque?

Yes, as long as the parent (or guardian)’s name, address, and phone number are printed on the cheque and made payable to Mountain West Studios Ltd. We do NOT accept postdated cheques.

I like the package I’ve received. Can I order more?

Yes. You may order more photos online at mountainwest.ca. Please note that archive retrieval fees may apply at a future date.

I have kids in multiple schools. Why are the prices different?

We offer differential pricing based upon the program offered to your school ranging from quick and affordable to a more deluxe, personalized offering.

Do you have a family plan?

Yes. For families with three or more children enrolled in schools photographed by Mountain West and located in the the same school district, when multiple images from the same family are ordered online in the same order a 25% discount will be automatically applied to your order.

At Mountain West Studios we provide two types of payment programs for our customers: Preview and Select. The following FAQs pertain to those specific programs.

Preview Plan

What are Preview Plans?

With our Preview Plans, you may preview proofs of multiple poses before you purchase your picture packages. About seven to ten days after photo day, your photo will be viewable online, or on your order envelope, online invitation sheet, Web Card, or ID card made available from your school.

Is it okay to order from both previews?

Yes. Custom units and complete packages may be ordered from both previews, however both poses can not be included in some packages.

Are the finished enlargements exactly like the previews?

Previews are only first-run "contact" prints. The finished enlargements will be "cropped" slightly (excess background removed), and corrected for density, colour, and position.

Why did I receive just one and not two proofs?

The number of poses offered may vary from between schools. If any pose is unusable (if the eyes are closed), we will share the only the best pose/s.

Select (or "Prepaid") Plan

What are Select Plans?

With our Select Plans, students order and submit payment while at the camera. These plans offer the fastest turnaround times and are typically more convenient procedure for your school to administer.

Do I have to order and pay on photo day?

Yes. If your school is on a select plan, your order and payment must be given to the photographer on photo day when the photo is taken. Orders that are not submitted with the rest of the orders from your school are subject to a processing & handling fee.

Other schools see proofs before ordering. Why don’t we?

The Select Plan, offers a lower price, faster service, and less administration at the school level.
